
Andrew Shaw
Born in Brisbane, Australia, Andrew grew up in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea before landing in Sydney, Australia. Hailing from an extended family of athletes, Andrew followed the family tradition and became a professional rugby union player at the age of 19, playing around the world until his career abruptly ended at 24.
Seeing parallels to his days in professional sport, Andrew began acting in 2015. He applied his mindset and physicality to the craft and landed various roles in Australian TV shows and was cast as a lead opposite Liam Neeson and Aiden Quinn in the action movie Blacklight. Andrew was also a series regular on Nautilus, the AMC+ TV adaptation of Jules Vernes’ ‘20,000 Leagues Under the Sea’ airing on Stan in August.
In 2015 Andrew jumped into the production side of the industry, cutting his teeth with a number of Sydney’s top production companies on commercial productions, becoming a highly sought after coffee go-getter and banter enthusiast, before eventually working his way up to freelance producer and director. Andrew discovered his voice and natural instinct for story telling, his experience telling stories in front of the camera has become his main asset in working with talent and crafting stories from behind the lens. Andrew is a Sydney based freelance producer and director with an distinct visual style and calmness on set.
Andrews first short film boy/beast was his first foray into the scripted world, a deeply personal exploration into his youth, and his production company Birdfeeders’ debut film. Andrew is currently developing a slate of scripted TV shows and movies at various stages of development, working with creatives to bring their stories to life.
